Abia State governor-elect, Dr. Okezie Ikpeazu has banned courtesy visits to his home, saying he would no longer be available to receive any delegation coming for the purpose of congratulating him, Thisday Reports.

In a press statement personally signed by Ikpeazu, he thanked Abia residents for voting him into power but pleaded with those jostling to pay him courtesy visits to give him some breathing space so he could prepare for the job he was elected to do.

The statement read in part, “I wish to thank all those who have felicitated with me in one way or the other since I was declared winner but plead for the understanding of all those who are planning courtesy calls that I shall no longer be available to receive any delegation coming with the intention to congratulate me.

“Because of the enormity of the task ahead, I require all the time I can get to plan to ensure that I justify the enormous confidence you have all reposed in me.”

“I acknowledge that the position you have bestowed on me is one of trust and my victory at the poll is at your instance,” he said, adding “with God’s help, I shall do all within my power to justify this enormous confidence you have reposed in me”.

He pleaded for the understanding of all those planning to embark on congratulatory and commendation visits and assured that he would feel worthy to start accept such visits “after I have been sworn-in and after I have made appreciable impact”.

Punch correspondent reports that Ikpeazu’s country home at Umuobiakwa in Obingwa Local Government Area of Abia State had become a Mecca of sorts since after the governorship ection as individuals and groups continue to pay visits to the governor-elect.

Various entertainment groups and dancing troupes have also been having a field day with free feeding a daily routine for all visitors.

Ikpeazu had declared in the past, that his administration will be much better and faster in service delivery  than that of incumbent governor, Chief Theodore Orji.

Jonathan And Buhari Meet Behind Closed Doors In Abuja

The outgoing and the incoming presidents reportedly held a private meeting on Wednesday night.

According to Vanguard, Goodluck Jonathan and Muhammadu Buhari met behind the closed doors of the Presidential Villa in Abuja to discuss the details of the handover.

The Nation adds that the May 6 meeting started around 9pm and lasted just 30 minutes. There were no media present, and there was no official statement on the results.

Interestingly, when contacted, Mallam Garba Shehu, the director of media and publicity of the APC presidential campaign council, said although he heard there was a meeting, he could not confirm it.

He was quoted as saying by The Punch:

“I heard there was a meeting but I have no idea where or when it held or what was discussed.”

It is already the second time the president-elect Buhari had visited President Jonathan this month.

Akiolu Threatens To Name Buhari's Enemies

Rilwan Akiolu, the Oba of Lagos, is in the news again, this time threatening to name those who worked against the success of Muhammadu Buhari, the president-elect.

According to Channels TV, the traditional ruler, who has been recently under fire over his anti-Igbo comments, made another threat as he spoke at the occasion to mark 2,900 days of the Babatunde Fashola administration.

“A lot of things have been happening now. Some people have been telling Buhari all sorts of things. Awujale and I have decided to meet Buhari because Lagos and South West states must benefit from the Buhari administration.

“People, who are now telling Buhari all sorts of things, are sycophants. They did not want Buhari to emerge winner in the election. These people know themselves. When it gets to a stage, I will name them one after the other. I am not afraid of human beings.”

The same people, he contended, have started pitting the duo of Tinubu and Buhari against each other the same way they set the former against Fashola, This Day adds.

Governor Fashola for his part apologized to those who might have been hurt as a result of his decisions.

“To those that I might have offended, I apologise. For 2,900 days, I was called to make decisions every hour. I made decisions through treating millions of files on issues affecting residents of Lagos. I took those decisions in the best interest of the state. The decisions were taken based on the fact as presented to me.

“I could not have got all the decisions right. It is impossible. To those that we have not reached, please bear with us, the work will never finish. I am sure that our new governor will continue from where I stopped. This is the time to prepare for the change of baton. With the support of the residents of Lagos, your taxes, understanding and perseverance, honest criticism and prayers we may not have come this far.”

It should be recalled that speaking in the course of the launch of his book, after the governorship election, Akiolu insisted that Jimi Agbaje (PDP) would “never be the governor”. He noted, however, that Akinwunmi Ambode (APC) would perform “very well” adding:

“I told many people that Bola Tinubu planted the seed, Fashola came and watered the seed and it started germinating in geometrical progressions. We have just started.”

NDLEA Nabs Pastor With Heroin

Officials of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, have arrested a Lagos pastor for drug trafficking, according to The Nation.

Making known details of the arrest to the press, Mr. Nsikak-Abasi Udoh, the NDLEA commander at the Enugu Airport, said the suspect, Daniel Lanre Akintola, 43, was found with 1.978kg of heroin concealed in a false bottom of his luggage

He said: “Mr. Daniel Lanre Akintola unlawfully possessed 1.978kg of heroin while returning from Entebbe, a major town in Central Uganda. He wanted to abandon the luggage but we detected his intention.

“The drug was carefully concealed in a false bottom of his luggage. The second suspect is a businessman who had parcels of ephedrine weighing 51.5kg which he wanted to smuggle to Maputo, Mozambique.

Akintola, who claimed ownership of the bag containing heroin, said he was returning from a pastor’s conference.

Similarly, another suspect, Onwuegbusi Tochukwu Victor, 48, was also found with 51.5kg of ephedrine inside his luggage.

This latest arrest comes few weeks after another Lagos-based pastor was arrested at the Murtala International Airport, Ikeja, Lagos, for smuggling narcotics to South Africa.

Rivers state governor-elect, Nyesom Wike, has accused the outgoing governor of the state, Rotimi Amaechi, of engaging in the manufacture of fake visuals and audio in the Government House to mislead Nigerians on the state governorship election.

Thisday reports that Wike made the statement on April 15, 2015, speaking on “Focus Nigeria,” a political programme on Africa Independent Television.

The governor-elect noted that there was no way that the All Progessives Congress (APC) would have won the governorship election in the state because the party was not ready for it. According to him, the APC in the state worked desperately to disrupt the governorship election by engineering violence, however, people of the state remained focused.

The governor-elect recalled that on the election day Amaechi came to his family home to provoke his supporters. He also went to different wards in various local governments, breaking electoral laws.

Wike expressed his regret that the APC had formed the habit of using deception to discredit elections in communities where its members lost

Wike noted that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) sitting governors lost elections in Benue, Bauchi, Kaduna, Niger, Jigawa and Plateau Sstates, but have chosen to respect the process. Amaechi in his turn has resorted to spreading falsehood with the help of his media associates/international observers.

SGF: APC Chieftains Dump Amaechi For Onu Jerrywright Ukwu, Yesterday

he Federal Government as top chieftains of the All Progressives Congress (APC) are said not to be backing his ambition.

The soon to be ruling All Progressives congress, APC, leadership have moved against the plans by a section of the party to ensure that the Rivers State Governor and Director General of the Muhammadu Buhari Campaign organisation emerges Nigeria’s Secretary to the Government of the Federation.

Sources at the headquarters of the Party in Abuja who do not want their names mentioned tell NewsWire that those against Amaechi believe he will cause more problems for President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari who should not be seen to be rocking the polity now that he has won.

“You Journalist, you already know the personality of Rotimi Amaechi, the day you make him SGF, a sensitive post at that, he automatically assumed the role of the President and will start commandeering Ministers around”.

He continued, “Amaechi has a strong personality but the party will think of what is best for him, but SGF is a no no. That office needs a calm personalty who will be there to ensure the President succeeds, not one who will fight with even party men like he’s been doing with Tinubu lately”.

After a series of meetings where issues of zoning arrangement  were resolved for key federal legislative and executive positions.

The office of the Secretary to the Government of the Federation was zoned to the South-east which puts paid to speculations that Amaechi, may become the next SGF.

Amaechi said to have spent billions and even borrowed a loan meant for the state to fund the campaign according to sources in Rivers State feels a little disappointed at the decision reached by the party, but he is now lobbying for a Juicier appointment.

One of the party Leaders tells NewsWireNGR,“Initially Amaechi was penciled for SGF but he has a temperament that will not  enable him succeed in that role”.

He opined that the role “of the SGF is for one with a career personality and the task not for aggression. If given to Amaechi he stands a chance to challenge the powers of the president by rocking the boat”.

Rumours are rife that  Chief Ogbonnaya Onu, the first Executive Governor of Abia State, Nigeria from February 1992 to December 1993 and former National Chairman of the All Nigeria Peoples Party (ANPP) is likely to clinch the position.

He also made it known that since the victory of the All Progressives Congress in the just concluded election, there has been various rumours in the media to just paint the president Goodluck administration black. A woman from Delta State who hid her adulterous relationship from her husband for 11 years, Lekan Onipede, run away after she viciously attacked him with boiling water and pursued him with a knife.

The woman, Rosemary David, and a 31-year-old indigene of Ondo state, Onipede, about 11 years ago became parents of a baby boy. Rosemary David still living with him under the concept of common law mar­riage, and in what would appear to be a case of polyandry, allegedly hooked up with another man in Delta State and had two other children (a boy and a girl) with the man, and then passed them off as Onipede’s children.

Over the years, David perfectly juggled the two ‘husbands’ in Ondo and Delta states, co-habit­ing with them in a near seamless manner until the bubble burst, and set the stage for the heinous attack on Onipede after accusing him of adultery.

The tale began when David who was living with her parents in Ore, Ondo State, got into a relationship with Onipede and became pregnant.

When Onipede didn’t allow to David to have an abortion, she dropped out of school and later gave birth to a baby boy. Later, Onipede relocated to Lagos to study at a technical school and also seek means of earning income to sup­port David and the baby. While Onipede struggled to find his feet in Lagos, David alternated be­tween living with her parents and Onipede’s parents in Ondo state on the one hand and her aunt in Delta state on the other hand.

Two years later, Onipede completed his training at the technical school at Abule-Ado, Lagos state, got a job and then invited David to come and live with him. This began their ‘mar­ital’ journey. A few weeks later, David informed him that she was pregnant. Quite upset with the news, Onipede expressed his dis­pleasure, but promised to do his utmost to cater for the family.

As it would later turn out, David regularly traveled to Delta state to visit her aunt and her mother, during which she would stay for three weeks or one month. She continued to make the frequent visits to Delta state until she gave birth to a third child.

The first twist in the tale occurred four years ago, when Onipede and his elder brother attended a wedding in Delta state, where they met one of the brothers of David and his friend named Okey.

When Okey learnt that David was married to Onipede, he laughed scornfully and said: “Okay, let’s see after the wedding because we have something to talk about.” Okey exchanged numbers with Onipede and they kept in touch.

When the duo spoke, Okey told Onipede that his ‘wife’ had another husband in Delta state. Despite the protestations of Onipede, Okey challenged him to trail David to Delta whenever she embarks on another visit to the state. However, he did not act on the advice until the 2014 Easter period when David traveled to Delta state with the third baby.

Onipede called Okey, who urged him not to believe David’s story of going to visit her aunt. Acting on this advice, Onipede trailed David to Delta state and spent three days searching for her. On the third day, he finally saw her with another man. Heartbroken, Onipede returned to Lagos the same day, after discovering his wife’s infidelity.

Recalling what he overheard in the bar that night, Onipede said: “As I sat at the bar monitoring my wife, one of the men seated there said that he did know what Rosemary always went to do in Lagos. Every time, she would go to Lagos and leave her husband here at home. I am sure it is because of the first wife of the man she is married to. I returned home, I took my two children that Rosemary left behind for blood test since DNA test is expensive. The only child who had the same blood group as my was the first child I had with Rose in secondary school. When she came back from Delta, I told her that I got a new job and said that she should go and do a blood group test as the company required the whole family to do such. When she did it, the second and third children had the same blood group but it was not the same with their mother’s blood group or mine. That was when I knew the children were not mine.”

Based on this discovery, Oni­pede told David he didn’t want anything to do with her again. She left for her parent’s place in Ore with the children.

Despite the separation he con­tinued to cater for the children. Then one day David called and said she wanted to visit Lagos to buy jewellery and sell in Ore, Ondo State. Upon her arrival, she tried to perform her wifely duties, like cooking and cleaning. To discourage her, he casually mentioned that he was in a relationship with a young lady, who was already pregnant with his baby and would give birth soon. ­

One night she called him and pleaded with Onipede to return home because she needed money to make up her fare to Delta state. The next day, he went home and gave her the money she wanted and laid down on a settee in the room to rest.

But she poured a pot of boil­ing water on his back. When he screamed and turned towards her, she did the same to his stomach. With his body severely scalded, Onipede rushed out, calling his landlady for assistance. She advised him to go to the police station to file a report.

Moreover, David allegedly picked up a knife, flagged down a motorcy­clist and instructed him to follow Onipede’s motorcycle. With both motorcycles trapped in traffic, she continued to hurl insults on Oni­pede while passers-by watched her. Rose also tried to stab him. Instantly, the people turned against her and forcefully dragged her to Area K Police Station, Okokomaiko.

She was promptly arrested, detained and asked to make a written statement. Onipede’s burn wounds had become critical necessitating the police to transfer him to Ikeja General Hospital, where he was given proper medical attention.

The police are said to be making efforts to track down David who is on the run.

Robbers raid AUMTCO, kill policeman 2015-04-17 19:34

Abuja - At least one police officer lost his life on Thursday night when a gang of robbers stormed the office of Abuja Urban Mass Transport Company (AUMTCO) in Katampe, along Kubwa Expressway.

Mr Tunde Akintola, the company’s Head of Marketing and Communication, said on Friday in Abuja that the gang of five armed robbers was armed with guns and other dangerous weapons.

Akintola said that, aside from killing the police officer, they also inflicted different degrees of injuries on some members of staff.

"The unfortunate incident happened around 8 00 p.m. on Thursday night, when most staff members had closed for the day.

"We had a few administrative personnel doing skeletal duties, as well as security personnel around the office.

"The gang of about five robbers entered the company through the administrative gate and forced their way into the cash office, killing the policeman and injuring some other staff members in the process.’’

Akintola said that the company had yet to ascertain the degree of loss suffered by the company as the matter was being investigated by the police.

He, however, said that the loss could be minimal as the company did not handle cash on a large scale.

"Maybe they thought that all our buses brought cash to the office at the end of each day; but that is not the case.

"Our ticketing is handled by agents who pay directly into the company’s account every day, but that is not to say that we didn’t suffer any financial loss to the robbery.

"We have imprest and some other contingency cash which were stolen, but no large-scale loss,’’ he said.

Akintola assured that investigation had commenced on the robbery, adding that a number of suspects were undergoing interrogation.

He commended the Nigerian police for their prompt response, while commiserating with family of the deceased policeman.

"You know it is difficult to point accusing fingers at any direction, but the police have commenced investigation into the matter, and some suspects are being interrogated.

"We thank, the police for their prompt response when they were contacted, and we pray for the repose of the soul of their late colleague,’’ he said.

He added that the remains of the late police officer had been deposited at the Maitama District Hospital mortuary, while the injured staff members were being treated in an undisclosed hospital. 

APC denies plot to destabilise PDP 2015-04-17 20:34

Abuja - The All Progressives Congress has denied all claims by the Peoples Democratic Party's spokesperson, Olisa Metuh that it is trying to destabilise the PDP.

The APC's publicity secretary, Alhaji Lai Mohammed said that it was impossible to destabilise the PDP and that President-elect, Muhammadu Buhari had spoken out against the wave of defection by politicians to the APC.

Mohammed called the accusations by the PDP ludicrous.

Following the loss of the PDP in the presidential elections, many of its politicians has been defecting to the APC.

Mohammed also added that the claims were far-fetched and that the PDP had done a decent job of crumbling underneath its own weight.

Police rescue four-year-old from kidnappers in Kano

Kano - The Police command in Kano on Thursday said it had arrested three persons, including a lady, who allegedly  kidnapped a four-year-old boy in Tudun Wada Local Government Area, Kano State.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, ASP Magaji Majiya, disclosed this while briefing newsmen in Kano.

He said the suspects, who kinapped the boy at the residence of his father in Tudun Wada town on April 14, were apprehended at Tarauni Quarters, Kano metropolis.

He said one of the suspects, Aliyu Tasi’u, was a younger brother to the grandmother of the victim.

"Tasi’u, a family member, have access to the house of the grandmother, where the boy was abducted.''

"Bello Wada took the boy and handed him over to one of the suspects, Fauziyya Bala, who whisked him to their den at Tarauni Quarters,’’ he said.

Majiya also said that the suspects later called the grandmother of the victim through her GSM line and demanded a ransom of N3 million or have the child killed

He said the case was later reported at Tudun Wada Police Division in company of two of the suspects, who sympathized with the family.

He said following the report, the police promptly commenced investigation and successfully arrested the suspects, in addition to rescuing the boy unhurt. 

Muslims threw Christians overboard during Med voyage

Rome — Italy's migration crisis took on a deadly new twist Thursday as police in Sicily reported that Muslim migrants had thrown 12 Christians overboard during a recent crossing from Libya, and aid groups said another 41 were feared drowned in a separate incident.

Palermo police said they had detained 15 people suspected in the high seas assault, which they learned of while interviewing tearful survivors from Nigeria and Ghana who had arrived in Palermo Wednesday morning after being rescued at sea.

The 15 were accused of multiple homicide aggravated by religious hatred, police said in a statement.

The survivors said they had boarded a rubber boat April 14 on the Libyan coast with 105 passengers aboard, part of the wave of migrants taking advantage of calm seas and warm weather to make the risky crossing from Libya, where most smuggling operations originate.

During the crossing, the migrants from Nigeria and Ghana, believed to be Christians were threatened with being abandoned at sea by some 15 other passengers from the Ivory Coast, Senegal, Mali and Guinea Bissau.

The statement said the motive was that the victims "professed the Christian faith while the aggressors were Muslim."

Earlier Thursday, the International Organization of Migration said four migrants who were picked up in recent days by the Italian Navy reported a shipwreck to aid workers after arriving in the Italian port of Trapani Thursday. They were among 580 migrants brought to the port on Thursday and said 41 others were believed to have died.

The IOM said the migrants, two Nigerians, a Ghanaian and one Nigerian were found floating in the sea by a helicopter and were rescued by the Italian Naval ship Foscari. They had left Tripoli in Libya on Saturday and stayed adrift for four days. The location of the rescue was not immediately known.

The new tragedies come just days after aid agencies reported 400 presumed dead in the sinking of another ship near the Libyan coast. The deaths have raised calls for a more robust search and rescue of the seas between Libya and Europe amid a surge in migration between the Middle East and Africa toward Italy.

APC wins 18 seats in Nasarawa State Assembly, PDP holds 6

Lafia - The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Nasarawa State won 18 out of 24 seats in the state House of Assembly during the April 11 governorship and assembly elections nationwide.

The PDP got six members from the contest.

This is contained in a statement signed by Abubakar Aliyu-Mohammed, the Public Affairs Officer of INEC in the state, and made available to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lafia on Thursday.

Others, according to the statement, include Umar Tanko-Tunga (Awe North); Ibrahim Bala (Keffi West); Musa Aliyu (Keffi East); Abubakar Obere-Kana (Kokona West); Daniel Ogazi (Kokona East), and Abubakar Mohammed-Imam (Lafia Central).

It further listed Murtala Sodangi (Nasarawa Central); Okpoku Mohammed (Nasarawa West); Isa Sani- Mohammed (Obi 1); Saidu Galadima (Toto/ Gadabuke); Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi (Umuasha/Dausa); Makpa Malla (Wamba), and Kassim Mohammed (Akwanga South) as APC winners.

The PDP members are Mohammed Okpede (Doma North); Mohammed Ibrahim-Alkali (Lafia North); Luka Ilya-Zhekaba (Obi 2); Godiya Akwashiki (Nasarawa Eggon West); Mohammed Aga-Muluku (Nasarawa Eggon East), and Mbucho Peter (Akwanga North).

NAN reports that the APC in Gov. Tanko Al-makura’s second tenure now holds the majority seat in tha parliament, unlike in 2011 when PDP had 20 members against APC’S four.

Niger govt says no plan to create new emirates

Minna - The Niger state Government on Thursday said that it had no plan to create new emirate councils in the state.

The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Alhaji Yusuf Tagwai, made this known Thursday at a news conference in Minna.

Tagwai explained that though the state government had received requests from some districts seeking elevations to emirate status, but none had met the requirement.

"Though requests for emirate status have been made, the government discovered that the demands lacked the basic requirements for what they are asking for," he said.

The commissioner, who described the agitation to upgrade some districts to emirates as ‘uncalled for’, added that ‘no government can plan such a thing at this critical period of transition’.

It is recalled that the state House of Assembly had on Tuesday stepped down a motion for the creation of new emirates in Minna, Borgu, Bida and Kontagora.‎

The intrigue linked with the outcome of Taraba governorship election persists, as the Independent National Electoral Commission has declared the April 11 polls in the state inconclusive.

Professor Muhammad Kariey, INEC returning officer for the election, said there has to be a supplementary election because the total number of votes rejected and cancelled were more than the total vote with which PDP’s Darius Ishaku led the runner-up Aisha Al-Hassan of the APC. In figures, the PDP polled 317,198 votes, while the APC received 262,386.

Another round of voting should be conducted within 30 days.

The official was quoted as saying by Premium Times:

“The difference between the PDP and APC is 63,817, while the rejected votes from some troubled areas are over 100, 000 votes.”

Based on the reports, the elections in Donga Wukari and Zing LGs were cancelled over the alleged irregularities.

The outcome of Taraba election is among the most expected in Nigeria, as because one of the leading candidates is a woman who might become the first female governor in the history of the country.

Analysts had predicted that the competition between Ishaku and Al-Hassan would be close, following the results of the presidential election in Taraba. Some used to say that the APC candidate’s gender could work against her.

A man killed by gunmen

A brother of Mark Useni, the speaker of Taraba state House of Assembly, was reportedly killed by gunmen in Takum local government area.

According to The Punch update, the house of the Secretary to the State Government has been razed as the violence continues unchecked.

On Monday evening the Independent National Electoral Commission declared the Taraba guber polls inconclusive as the total number of votes rejected and cancelled was more than the total vote with which the PDP’s candidate led the APC runner-up.

Reacting to the outcome, Dickson Ishaku (PDP) urged his supporters to maintain peace in the state as he said:

“I appreciate the people of Taraba state who came out enmass to vote for me, destiny can be delayed but can not be changed, am appealing to all my supporters to remain calm as we as responsible people are following the issue with wisdom.”

Alhaji Sani Abubakar Danladi, the Taraba state governor, declared a curfew from 7pm to 6am because of the violence following the governorship election result announcement.

The statement made public on April 13, Monday, maintains that the move was necessary to forestall the anticipated political violence in the state.

Vanguard learned that at least six people had been killed at Sunkani, the capital of Ardo Kola LGA as a result of the post-election crisis.

Unrest has already been recorded in Jalingo, Ardo Kola, Gasol and Sadauna LGAs of Taraba state.

International election observers

International election observers today called for the cancellation of the Governorship and House of Assembly elections in Rivers, according to a report by the News Agency of Nigeria.

The leader of African Centre for Leadership Strategies and Development, Humphrey Bekaren, who spoke on behalf of the observers, made the call in Port Harcourt. He said the observers were shocked that INEC disregarded the widely reported violent irregularities to begin the process of declaring results in the state.

"We request all lovers of democracy to join us in calling for the outright cancellation of the phony election. Unless this is done, we would have sown the seed that could eventually grow into providing a shade of fear and death over us,’’ he said.

According to Bekaren, what happened in Rivers was a far cry from what election should be.

"What we saw did not meet international standard of electioneering, not even the ones set by the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC,’’ he said.

He said there were reported incidents like deliberate delays and diversion of electoral materials, attacks on electoral officers, widespread arson  and voter intimidation.

The Resident Electoral Commissioner for Rivers, Mrs Gesila Khan, said INEC cancelled election in centres with reported electoral malpractices.

She said re-run elections took place in six local government areas in the state where electoral malpractices were reported.

APC candidate won in governorship election at Niger state

APC's governorship candidate in Niger state, Alh Abubakar Bello, has won the governorship election in the state. He pulled a total of 593,702 votes to clinch victory from PDP candidate, Alhaji Umar Nasko who pulled a total of 239,772 votes.

INEC declares Imo Governorship election inconclusive

INEC has declared the Imo State Governorship election between APC candidate, incumbent governor Rochas Okorocha and PDP candidate, Hon. Emeka Ihedioha, the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, inconclusive.

According to INEC results announced in Owerri yesterday, the APC candidate polled 385,671, while the PDP candidate polled 306,142.

Returning Officer in Imo state, Prof. Ibidapo Obe, said they were declaring the election inconclusive because of the number of canceled votes which was 144,715, compared with the margin of win by Okorocha which was 79,529. Prof. Obe said a new date for new election in the wards in the different LGAs where the votes were cancelled will be announced soon.

All my political appointees will declare their assets on resumption and termination of their appointment - Buhari

President elect, Gen Muhammadu Buhari says all political office holders, governors, ministers, permanent secretaries, head of foreign staff and others, will be declaring their assets before a law court on assumption of their appointment and at the end of their appointment. According to him, this would ensure accountability amongst public servants. He said this in an interview with Sahara TV yesterday April 12th

"All those that were governors, ministers, permanent secretaries, head of foreign staff and all those with political appointments will have to declare their assets on the assumption of their appointment and definitely with the courts. And once they leave they have to re-declare their assets.” he said

He said that his administration will not interfere in the judicial process that will be used to pursue corrupt officials. According to him, if his administration “become embroiled in investigation of every ministry, then the government will not have time to move forward.”

Reacting to the recent remarks by the Minister of Finance Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on the fiscal conditions and government spending in Nigeria, Gen Buhari said “I’m afraid the Finance Minister has no cause to complain because the governors cannot force the central government to act outside the Constitution.”

Regarding the controversies surrounding oil block ownership in Nigeria, Gen Buhari said partisan politics has been responsible for award oil wells to people who do not have any business with it in the first place

"Proliferation of oil fields to people who don’t even know what it is, is one of the messes partisan politics has brought.” he said

Reacting to insinuation in some quarters that former President Olusegun Obasanjo was indirectly having influence in his incoming government, Gen Buhari said "I think that people have to accept the realities of Nigeria’s political development. General Olusegun Obasanjo is the only living Nigerian that led Nigeria for more than 11 years, so for anybody to think that General Obasanjo is irrelevant or he was trying to push his influence over issues, I think is being uncharitable and not being fair to Nigeria’s political development."

Lagos house of Assembly : Elliot, Lai Mohammed’s son, others declared winners as Obanikoro, Ajomale’s sons lose

Lagos  –  Nollywood star, Desmond Elliot, of the All Progressives  Congress (APC) on Sunday polled 23,141 votes at the Surulere state constituency l to emerge winner.

Mr Bayo Smith, of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) came second with 12,546 votes.

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) Returning Officer, Dr Mariam Quadri, made the declaration at Surulere Collation Centre.

”That Desmond Olusola Elliot of APC having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared winner and is returned elected, ” she said.

For Surulere Constituency ll, the Returning Officer, Quadri,  declared Mrs Mosunmola Sangodara-Rotimi of PDP winner with 33, 583 votes closely trailed by Mr Abiodun Awobotu of  APC with 32, 767
votes.

”That Sangdara Mosunmola of PDP, having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared winner and is returned elected, ” she said.

Mr Folajimi Mohammed, the All Progressive Congress (APC) candidate, who is son of Alhaji Lai Mohammed, APC’s spokesman, was also declared the winner of Ikeja Constituency l House of Assembly election of April 11.

INEC Returning Officer, Mr Onochie Mordi, made this declaration at about 5.40am at the end of the collation of the results on April 12 at the Central Primary School, Ikeja GRA.

According to him, APC scored the highest number of votes of 13, 603 to emerge the winner.

Folajimi Mohammed

”I confirmed that the election was contested and the candidates received the following votes.

”Folajimi Jubril Mohammed of APC scored a total vote of 13, 603 and James Ndubuisi O. APGA scored a total vote of 35.

”Adetoye Ibrahim, LP scored a total vote of 5 and Obhafuoso A. Robert of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) scored a total vote of 10, 537 votes.

”Gospel Jerry O. of PPA scored a total vote of 22, Muyiwa ldowu scored a total vote of 37.

”That Folajimi Jubril Mohammed of the All Progressives Congress having scored the highest number of votes is thereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” he said.

The INEC also declared Adedamola Kasunmu, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate the winner of Ikeja Constituency ll House of Assembly election of April 11.

INEC Returning Officer, Dr Dele Ashiru, made this declaration at about 7.25a.m. at the end of the collation of the results on April 12 at the Central Primary School, Ikeja GRA.

According to him, APC candidate scored the highest number of 19, 909 votes to emerge the winner.

”I confirmed that the election was contested and the candidates received the following votes:

” Shodamola Azizat Anuoluwapo, AD, 42 votes, Prince Adedamola Kasunmu of the All Progressive Congress, 19, 909, Iwu Chibuikem of the All Progressive Grand Alliance scored 777 votes.

”Bakare Morufu Tanimola of the Labour Party scored 13 votes, Suberu Bose Ruth of the National Conscience Party scored 21 votes and Aruba Ayinde Amidu of the Peoples Democratic Party scored a total vote of 14, 147 votes.

”That Prince Adedamola Kasunmu of the All Progressive Congress having satisfied the requirements of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,” he said.

The INEC also declared Mr Wasiu Sanni and Mr Giwa Shakirudeeen of All Progressives Congress as the winners of the two seats in Lagos Island constituency.

Declaring the result on Sunday morning, Dr Martha Amadi, the Returning Officer, Lagos Island Constituency 1 for State House of Assembly Election, said that Wasiu Sanni scored 17,866 votes to defeat Yusuf Saheed of the PDP who got 7,628 votes.

Amadi said that the three parties participated in contest in Lagos Island Constituency were APC, PDP and PPA.

According to her, APC got 17,866 votes, PDP 7,628 and PPA 13 votes.

She said that  Wasiu Sanni of APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law and highest number of votes“is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

Also, Mr Adekunle Salvador, the Returning Officer, Lagos Island Constituency 2 for State House of Assembly Election, said that Mr Giwa Shakirudeen of APC scored 16,645 votes to defeat Mr Lateef Oluwanisola of PDP who got 7,676 votes.

Salvador said that four political parties participated in the contest.

“The parties are APC, PDP, PPA and SDP.

“APC scored 16,645, PDP 7676, PPA 19 and SDP 2 votes.

Salvador said that Giwa Shakirideen of APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law and highest number of votes “is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.”

Also,  Mr Adekanye Oladele, the APC state House of Assembly candidate for Lagos Mainland I was on Sunday declared the winner of the constituency election held on Saturday.

An Associate Prof. Monday Ubangha, the returning officer for the election in the constituency, declared Oladele the winner of the election having polled 18, 000 votes to defeat his major challenger Mr Ishola Jelili Balogun of PDP who scored 16, 641.

Ubangha said: ‘Mr Adekanye Oladele of APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law and
scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.

He said that National Conscience Party (NCP) came third with 631 votes while Alliance for Democracy (AD) came forth with 78 votes.

Others are Accord Party (AP) with 70 votes, Labour Party with 50, United Progressive Party (UPP) with 8 and Social Democratic Party (SDP) with 5 votes.

According to him, out of 128, 680 registered voters, only 40, 237 voters were accredited at the constituency.

The collation exercise took place at the St Agnes Nursery and Primary School, Sabo Yaba.

Mr Moshood Olarenwaju Oshun, the APC state House of Assembly candidate for Lagos Mainland II, in early hours of Sunday, was also declared the winner of the state constituency election held on Saturday.

Mrs Ifueko Bello, the returning officer, declared Olanrewaju the winner having polled 12, 147 votes to defeat his major challenger Mr Ibrahim Ajiga of PDP who scored 9,985.

Bello said: ‘With this figures that I have just announced, Moshood Olanrewaju of APC, having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.’’

Also, the INEC on Sunday declared that the APC won the two constituency seats in the Mushin House of Assembly election.

INEC announced the APC Candidate, Hon. Funmilayo Tejuosho, as the winner of the Mushin House of Assembly Constituency 1.

The commission also declared Hon. Olayiwola Olawale of the APC as the winner for the Mushin House of Assembly constituency II.

Dr Tunji Shotimirin, the INEC Collation Officer for constituency I, explained that APC scored 18,552 votes; Accord 10,858; while PDP, 6,415.

“By this summary, the APC candidate, Mrs Adefunmilayo Tejuoso, having polled the majority of votes in this election with 18,552, is hereby declared the winner and returned elected.“

Meanwhile, Dr James Esan, the INEC Collation Officer for the constituency II also declared Hon. Olayiwola Olawale of the APC as the winner of the Mushin House of Assembly Constituency II.

He said that Accord Party scored 5,471; APC, 34, 097 while PDP gathered 22,197.

“By this summary, the APC Candidate, Hon. Olayiwole Olawale, having polled the majority of votes in this election is hereby declared the winner,” Esan said.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP)’s candidates,  Dipo Olorunrinu and Hakeem Bello, were on Sunday declared winners of Amuwo  Odofin State Assembly Constituency I and II seats.

The declarations were made by  the INEC’s returning officers of the constituencies, Mrs Fatima Taiwo and Prof. Ngozi Osarenren.

“I Fatima Taiwo, hereby certify that I was the returning officer for Amuwo Odofin I State Assembly Constituency held on 11 day of April 2015 and that the election was contested and the candidates received the following votes:

“Sultal Adeniji of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 12,010 votes and Dipo Olorunrinu of the PDP scored 13,580 votes.

“That Dipo Olorunrinu of the PDP having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest votes is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected,’’ Taiwo said.

Similarly, Osarenren said: “I Prof. N. Osarenren, hereby certify that I am the returning officer of Amuwo Odofin State Assembly Constituency II and that the election was contested and the candidates received the following votes:

“Ramota Hassan of the All Progressives Congress (APC) scored 14,216 votes and Hakeem Bello of the PDP scored 19,272 votes.

“That Hakeem Bello of the PDP having satisfied the requirement of the law and scored the highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner and is returned elected.’’

Also, Mr Mudashiru Obasa of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was declared winner for the Lagos State House of Assembly elections in Agege Constituency 01.

The Returning Officer, Prof. Ganiyu Oke, Director of Distance Learning, University of Lagos said that seven political parties participated in the elections.

Oke listed the political parties to include AD, APA, APC, APGA, LP,
NNPP and PDP.

Obasa, who was re-elected, polled 19,979 votes, Mr Adeyemi Adeseye of
the PDP polled 14,489 votes, Mr Sogbade Adio of LP got 2,504 votes,  MrBabatola Oluwaseyi of AD got 93 votes.

Mr Alagbo Olajide of APA got 71 votes, Mr Salaudeen Adeshina of APGA polled 57 votes, while Mr Adeyemi Olusola of NNPP polled 22 votes.

“By the power conferred on me by the constitution and electoral law of Nigeria, I, Prof. Ganiyu Oke, Returning Officer for the Agege Constituency 01 elections hereby certify that the election was
contested.

“Therefore, Obasa Mudashiru of APC, hereby satisfied the requirement of the law and polled the highest number of votes, is hereby declared winner and returned elected,’’ Oke said.

Similarly, Mr Ishahu Gbolahan and Mr Kazeem Alimi, of APC won the two seats in Eti-Osa constituency.

Declaring the result on Sunday morning Mr Michael Uchola, Returning Officer, Eti-Osa Constituency 1 and 2 said that Mr Kazeem Alimi scored 17,908 votes to defeat Adeyiwola Oyenusi of the PDP who got 14,307 votes.

“Kazeem Alimi of APC Constituency 1, having satisfied the requirement of the law and highest number of votes is hereby declared the winner,’’ Uchola said.

Uchola  also declared Mr Ishahu Gbolahan of APC as the winner for Lagos House of Assembly in Eti-Osa Constituency 2 with 9,782 votes to defeat Mr Ibrahim Obanikoro of PDP who scored 9,510

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Mr Oluwa Olatunji Fatai of the PDP was on Sunday returned as the winner of the House of Assembly election for Ajeromi-Ifelodun Constituency Two.

The result for the Saturday election was announced at 6.30 a.m by Dr Oludiran Akinleye, the INEC Returning Officer for Ajeromi Ifelodun.

Akinleye, an  Associate Professor of the Economics Department, University of Lagos, announced the results before representatives of parties for the elective position.

He said, “I Dr Oludiran Akinleye, hereby ‎declare Mr Oluwa Olatunji Fatai of the PDP as the winner of the House of Assembly election for Ajeromi Ifelodun Constituency Two.”

The results were collated throughout the night as some results arrived late to the collation centre at the L.A Primary School, Bale Str., Ajegunle.

The PDP candidates were declared winners in the two state constituencies in Oshodi/Isolo Local Government Area.

In Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 1, the Returning Officer, Mrs Tewo Bakare, declared the PDP Candidate, Mr Shokunle Hakeem, as the winner with 17,479 votes.

Bakare said the APC Candidate, Mr Olukayode Ogundipe, came second with 17,125 votes while the NCP Candidate, Mr Olayilawal Ahmed, had 382 votes.

In Oshodi/Isolo Constituency 2, the Returning Officer, Dr Adeyemi Osinowo, announced the PDP Candidate, Mr Emeka Idimogu, as the winner of the seat with 27,423 votes.

“Emeka Idimogu of the PDP having satisfied the requirement of the law  and scored the highest number of votes, is hereby declared the winner for Oshodi/Isolo constituency 2,” said Osinowo.

The returning officer said that the APC Candidate, Mr Olayinka Ajomale, came second with 25,727 votes, while Mr Ifeanyi Udeh of APGA came third with 673 votes.

NNPC on Fuel Availability

The management of the Nigerian national petroleum corporation – NNPC has called on the public to avoid panic buying and hoarding of
petroleum product as the authority has injected additional 688 million liters of petrol into the market.
This is contained in a statement by the group general manager public affairs division, Mr Ohi Alegbe saying the measure is to eliminate the artificially induced queues at filling stations

The statement adds that the corporation is working with all downstream industry stakeholders to arrest any shortfall that may have been triggered by the unnecessary fears created.

Clinton takes responsibility for Benghazi attack

US Secretary of State Hillary Rodham Clinton says it is her responsibility to keep diplomats safe. The statement came in reaction to last month's deadly attack on the US diplomatic mission in Benghazi, Libya, which has become an issue in the US Presidential campaign.

Clinton's comments followed stepped-up criticism of the Obama administration over the Benghazi attack, which Republican presidential challenger Mitt Romney has sought to use to dent Obama’s foreign policy credibility before the November 6 election.
The administration initially attributed the violence to protests over an anti-Islam film and said it was not premeditated. Obama and other officials have since said the incident was a terrorist attack. 
Romney has accused the administration of not providing adequate security to American diplomats and misrepresenting the nature of the attack, which resulted in the death of US Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans. 
Romney's criticisms have sought to undercut the foreign policy record of Obama, who has been praised for the killing of al Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden and the withdrawal of troops from unpopular wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Congress has increased pressure on the State Department to release information about the attack. Obama and Clinton have both vowed a full investigation.

Ogun 2015: I’m in the race to win – Odunsi, SDP guber candidate

Senator Kamar Akin Odunsi is the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party, SDP, in Ogun State. In this interview, he declares that he is in the race to win the Aprill 11 election.

•Odunsi: We in the SDP are very confident

You are a professional before going into politics. Why did you decide to go into politics?

Well, I decided to go into politics in order to satisfy the yearnings of my people. As you know, I have retired from advertising industry from 2003 to 2010. I had almost seven-year break. But the call from my people for effective representation became a very strident call such that I could no longer resist responding to their call. Of course, because I knew I had the time to spare and I have a second address I can always come back to, it was not a big risk for me. I came on board in 2011 seriously. I have been at it since then. I believe the people of Ogun West needed effective and responsible representation in the National Assembly. I made up my mind from the moment I accepted to run that if I was eventually elected, I would serve my people and bring dividends of democracy closer to the people. So, I decided to go into politics in order to satisfy the yearnings of my people and provide effective and responsible representation.

Are you done with what you planned to achieve in the National Assembly? Or why the idea of governorship?

I have not actually done with the task of providing effective and responsible representation. I believe my governorship aspiration is to continue to represent the people of Ogun State at a broader or higher level. But let me explain why I decided to throw my hat to the ring for governorship. I am somebody, who believe in party supremacy. Originally, I intended to stick to my senatorial seat and continue serving my people. But few things happened that changed my senatorial pursuit. As you know, I was elected on the platform of the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) in 2011. The ACN eventually merged with two other political parties and became All Progressives Congress (APC). After the APC emerged, certain things happened and changed the entire equation. Even when we were in the ACN after the election, what we planned for the people of Ogun State was not what came to pass. We expected that we would work together collectively for the development and progress of all sectors in Ogun State. However, the Governor of Ogun State, Sen. Ibikunle Amosun decided to play the game according to his rules. In other words, he did not involve the rest of us, who brought to power at the state level. He ran a one-man show as it were to the exclusion of the rest of us that were elected along with him to the extent that he considered it worthwhile to meet and consult with those of us that represent other constituencies. He ran a one-man show. Every effort to make him work with us as a team fell on deaf ear. In that situation, he did so many things about the input of other components of the state. I cannot truly begin to enumerate all things he failed to do as the state governor. But it was obvious to many of us that he was running a government to the exclusion of all of us, who represented other interests in the party and in the state.

You are competing against the incumbent. A lot of people may not know the inside story of your party. What they want to see is what the Amosun administration is currently doing. Are you in this race to win?

Eh! By the grace of God, you are speaking with the next governor of Ogun State. We are confident that we shall win this governorship election in Ogun State.

What is the source of that confidence?

Well, we have toured the entire state. We have gone round, speaking with people. We have reached to the people. What we are getting from the people of Ogun State is total rejection of this administration. The building of bridges and roads you see around is a pure façade because there is no development at all in the suburbs. There is nothing to show and people are really unhappy with the Amosun administration.  We have virtually gone to all wards in Ogun State. We have not just visited in urban centres. We have gone to all the rural areas. We have found that there is no development in those places absolutely. There are no roads. We have seen a huge number of jobless people. Farming is abandoned. The health sector is in a state of comatose. Like an interview I read, Amosun referred to our schools as “ramshackle schools.” Yes, our schools are ramshackle because that is the way he wants to leave them. He prefers to build his so-called model schools at the expense of the existing schools. He has left the pupils in the state in ramshackle. I can imagine a governor describing the schools in his own state as “ramshackle schools.”

What are you selling to the young people?

We have grand plan to provide employment for the young people through different schemes. We are going to open up farm settlements that late Chief Obafemi Awolowo established in the state. We are going to attract young men and women into farms because we are going to modernize agriculture. That is not all. We are going to build rural roads so that industries can also develop in rural areas and not just in the urban centres alone. We have to check rural-urban drift that has been causing a lot of trouble everywhere. We will ensure that there is employment opportunities for the young people, who are graduates on okada.

If elected, are you not going to build on infrastructure projects the Amosun administration has started?

We are going to review all on-going projects. We are not going to abandon the project per se, but we will prioritise our needs. For instance, some of those roads are inflated projects, even over-inflated. If you look at the cost of many road contracts in per kilometer in Ogun State compared with what it is elsewhere, you see what I am talking about. Most of them are over-inflated. When we get to power, what I am going to do is that we will re-organise our priorities. I do not even know how many of those roads have been completed. You came through Ilo Awela road here. Towards the end of the road, the contractor has stopped working for months now. Whenever it rains, those who live on the axis are susceptible to erosion. We know some of those projects need to be completed. It is public funds. We can throw it away, but we have to re-prioritise them.

Which of the ongoing projects will you like to discontinue?

I am not going to discontinue any project. But we will look at all the projects and re-order our priorities. For instance, rather than build many of these roads, what we probably need is a road our cities. All we need is a ring road that can prevent many of the excessive roads that they are doing. If we build some ring roads, it will cut a lot of expenditure. Look at Iganmode road, for instance. What we need in that place is not a six-lane road. The traffic that goes through that route does not require six lanes. What we need is good drainage in that place because we never have traffic jam in Sango/Otta. So, what is the point in the new roads they are building now? There is no point at all. In the end, you have destroyed heritage buildings and places of worship without adequate compensation. Those are the real issues.

Are these issues potent enough to defeat the incumbent governor in the April 11 elections?

I know I am more experienced than the man, who is there now. I believe I am a team player. I believe I have fear of God. Aside, I am a very successful person in various businesses that I have run. I have track records to show my performance. Even as a senator of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, I can point to several projects that I have executed across the Ogun West senatorial district.

So, I am not a failure by any standard. I know I am honest. I do not lie. I am a very honest person. What we need at this stage is somebody who has the desire to serve the people and not to improve his/her own lot. I think we need a God-fearing person as well.

Ogun West has not produced governor in the state. If people from Ogun West are really desirous of producing a governor, why can there be some kind of synergy among different parties?

We do not an alliance to defeat the incumbent. Already, the incumbent is gone. We have told our supporters that we heard they were throwing money around. We told them to collect the money. It is their money. We told our supporters to take the money from him, but should not vote for him. On the idea of alliance, we are different parties. I am in SDP. Other candidates are in different parties. So, how do we construct that kind of alliance?

You appear conservative. But the modern politics is for people, who will remove the toga of conservativism. Are you sure this conservative style will help realise your aspiration?

I do not know what you mean by conservativism. If being honest is conservative, I agree I am conservative. If being hard-working is conservative, I am happy to be conservative. If having the fear of God is conservative, I am glad to be conservative. What we need is performance. I have told you that my whole life is all about performance. Many of you knew me in my period of active business. If you say I am conservative, I am perhaps by your own definition. But it is the result that matters. If you deliver to the people and the people are yearning for the dividends of democracy, people are not interested in your flamboyance or your aggressive posture. In this country, what needs least is aggression. I know the style of the people you are talking about. Their style is win at all cost. That is what they think politics should be. I do not believe in that kind of politics. But I know if we work hard, we will win.

Can you give us insight into your vision? What are you bringing on board this time?

We have developed a 7-point agenda. The agenda contains our programmes of actions for the people of Ogun State. It is our article of faith, to which we stick. The agenda comprise integrated rural development and agriculture; qualitative education for our children; integrated power project, employment generation; qualitative healthcare service delivery, sports and recreation for all as well as promotion of tourism and culture. Precisely, we will not tell stories about what we will do and what we cannot do. We have seen how politicians make promises that in the end they cannot come near what they have promised the electorate. We are going put an end to that kind of behaviour in Ogun State.

Some of the excuses these politicians give when they get there are they do not know that the internally generated revenue (IGR) is not good and statutory allocation does not come. How do you intend to over this challenge?

That is why it is pointless making empty promises. We know what we can afford to do, even before going into government. We know the things that are feasible based on the resources of the state. There are some we cannot make projection for until and unless we get to the government and see the flow of revenues.
